We have a 99 Explorer EB AWD w/ 5.0 We've started having an issue when we start the truck it will stall out unless we feather the gas, or hold it at 500-1k rpm. After it reaches operating temperature the issue seems to go away. The ABS light has been on for some time, and we know that's just the rear ABS sensor (which I have, I just need to replace) but a few days ago the check engine light came on.... I had autozone check the code, and he told me the only code showing is for that rear abs sensor... why would the check engine light come on for that? should I have another tech check to make sure there's not another code? (I had to show the guy where the diagnostic port was, so I'm questioning his ability to do something as simple as scrolling through to see if there was more than one code.)

sorry to ramble... any ideas on what the issue might be?

Diagnostic port...

Hello... with all the cars they look at, finding the port gets tough. Our local guys here let you do it yourself, and same problem - we can't find the port. :D

For the idle issue, my first question is what brand gasoline do you use? If you use like Chevron with techron, then you have other issues with the idle.

(Please be careful with Autozone, they are the only company around that does that service for free

I had the same problem you need to just change the rear abs sensor in the rear diff that wouldnt cause your check engine light to come on. Also you truck is running rough and stalling on cold start your intake gaskets and o rings need to be changed and that will take care of that and the rough start and check engine light also :us:

You need to find out which code is turning on the CEL. AZ is NOT a diagnostic service, even if they find a code most likely you will be sold unneeded parts. If the CEL is on, there WILL be codes related, possibly transmission codes since you have a speed sensor issue. Knowing which codes are in the PCM will greatly enhance figuring out the problems you are having.

The problems you are describing sound like a sticking idle control valve, especially if you are in an area that gets pretty cold. The intake gaskets on the 5.0 are not as much trouble as the 4.0. I think the other post mentioning this is confusing the 4.0 orings with the wrong engine.

yea i didnt notice it was a 5.0 i have a 4.0 sorry
