I've got an 07 xlt with factory radio and picked up a sirius radio a couple of months ago. I haven't done anything with it yet other than hook it up to listen to - all of the 50' of wiring that it comes with is just sitting on the dash and I would like to finally hide it all.

I'll probably put the antenna centered on the back like the instructions say and run the wire under the carpet up to the front. Has anyone here hardwired the power cord or direct input line to the system?

I don't want to wire it to the cigarette adaptor as the power is always on. What other wire can I splice into that shuts off with the key? And will it be alright to splice into the direct input line in the center console - leaving the input jack open if I want to plug something else in?

Any mounting advice? I won't put it on the windshield, right now it's clipped to the center passenger side vent but I think I'd prefer it somewhere else.

I wired mine to the power and ground for the radio that switches on and off with the ignition. Not sure of what color this would be for you, you could either use a little guess and test with a volt meter or find a wiring diagram.

I definitely would not hardwire it the input jack. If you do then have the potential for running two audio signals into your stereo which would at the least sound really bad and at worst could overload the input and cause some damage.

My Sirius tuner is an older one but it has a very good FM transmitter so I have just used that so far.

I wired in a second cig lighter port under my dash to plug into. If I were to hard-wire I would probably tap the cig lighter power though..

I know it`s constant power, just turn it off.

If its sirius you can hardwire the unit. If its XM you can not due to xm has a voltage drop in the cig. plug.

With that being said wht i would do is cut off the cig plug, with a dmm test the continunity across the outside of the plug that goes into the sirius unit and the wires. when you determine which wire goes to the outside of the plug this is your ground. I like to test both just to be on the safe side.

Hook that wire that tested to the outside up to a ground and the other to a ignition source. according to the tech info i have the ignition source at the radio should be a green/white wire (once again test this)

i have an xm radio and i hardwired it using a universal DC adapter. it was cheap and you can pick one up from walmart. you are able to select the output voltage so you can choose 4.5v or 6v, either will work. mine is set to 4.5v and i never had a problem. it was designed to plug into a cigarette lighter but i took that part off and hardwired it with a add-a-fuse into the fuse box. im not sure which number it was but the xm will turn on and off with the key.

Never thought of that. Best to always check what kind of power enters your unit.

You can always plug the xm into a cig socket, and then wire the cig socket up to hide under your dash...

heres where i put the adapter: under the console against the box.

the two wires on top is where the cigarette light was. and the bottom wires connect the xm radio.
