Hello-

I am looking to add remote start to my 96 XLT with auto tranny/ keyless entry / factory alarm. I am getting real sick of scraping the frost off of all those windows every morning and some nights. I know a few guys with remote start on their cars and they all seem to love it. None of them did it themselves and none of the poor fellas have Explorers.

Any reccomendations on brands? Sears has Cobra for about $150 but no installation. Target has one for about $100, again you install it. How do these compare to the Best Buy installed units that are $250 installed?

How hard is the installation?

Thanks in advance
Jeff

I have seen one in a magazine that bypasses the factory alarm. Do you know anything about this one? The only reason I would want this one so that I would not have to get another remote to add to the key chain. Or do they all require another key chain? I wanted to try to organize a group buy on it but no one seemed interested when I posted it.

I think it might be the same one Sam's Club sells - it works with your factory key fobs and you just double click and hold? the lock button I think and it starts. The ones I saw at Target and Best Buy included a different key fob that worked with the fatory alarm and had a different button to start the car.
I cant believe no one has this - a guy at work has it on his Maxima and he always starts it from his office and then runs out to a warmed up and defrosted car.
I'll check with the guy I work with as to what he has and let you know.

remote start

I installed one on my girlfriends car (96 Mazda 626). It was an aftermarket system w/ an alarm, remote start and keyless. The remote start was suprisingly easy, but the keyless gave me problems. Anyway, there is a module that you can get off ebay that allows you to use your factory remote to start your X and it bypasses the factory alarm. From the looks of it and the description, it doesn't look like it is hard to install at all. If you get one and have problems installing it, send me an e-mail, I could probably help. Here is the link:
