I really need to change the AFT on my truck and have been using Mobil 1 AFT since new. However, Mobil 1 reps have informed me that CARB continues to not allow them to sell it in California. My question is has anyone used "Castrol high mileage ATF" in their vehicles. I want to put a full synthetic back in but I don't want to spend $13.00 a qt for AMSOIL. Can I use an addative to bring it up to synthetic specs?

Most ATFs are synthetic or a synthetic blend to begin with, so just as long as you get a good quality like Valvoline, Mobile 1, Castrol, etc and in the right type, Mercon V, then you should be fine. There is also Royal Purple which is a little cheaper than Amsoil, but some people say its just as good.
