has anyone ever tried to make custom headlights with the leds like in audis?

All it would take is MONEY. And a lot of it. Would make HID conversion seem cheap.

I assume you mean using the LED's as an accent rather than as the main light source. I doubt this has been attempted, but if I was going to try, I would get a set of clear light housings (avail on e-bay etc) to start. Then get a set of projector HID's and some LED's. Take the light housing and split it open at the back / lens seam, hack and fit to get the projector housing inside and then fiberglass in around it, creating the design you want with a place to drill and mount the LED's. Finish up, and reglue the front of the light housing on. Wire it up and lather, rinse, repeat on the other side. And good luck...

If i had a full time job, cheaper insurance, and not a brick on wheels, it would be a hella fun project to try, of course like they said, using LEDs only as accents, and putting projectors inside.
