- 2010 Mercury Mountaineer
My mom has a 2010 Mercury Mountaineer that has ABS, RSC Service Now with the extremely loud audible alarm every 10-15 minutes while driving. The car was taken to a Ford dealership and their diagnosis was the HCU needed to be replaced. They estimated the cost around $1600 BUT said they couldn't fix it because the HCU part is no longer available. It seemed unbelievable that the dealer could not replace a part on a 10 year old vehicle. A quick Google search appears that the HCU is available new through online part stores. So now I'm wondering why the dealer does not seem to want to repair this? I found a few other posts online where people were told the same thing at other dealerships. Any ideas? My guess is maybe the HCU gets misdiagnosed and they aren't really sure of the problem.
Also, as the car otherwise runs fine and has very low miles, is there a simply way I can suppress the audible alarm by removal of a fuse or something? Thanks
