I wish to upgrade my Head deck on 2002 XLT. The standard unit is double din intergrated 6 CD.
I'm confused is there any issues if I wish to change to aftermarket double din DVD. Are there any pre- amps fitted to this model that will prevent me from doing this change.

Also can you buy a harness adaptor to fit the standard ford plugs.

Any help please.

We would need to know what system you have. Do you have a subwoofer in the back?

Yes, you can buy harnesses to do exactly what you want.

Hi Cobraguy

The details I have as follows,

There is no subwoofer.

The coding -18c815- Premium am/fm/6CD

There is however three seperate plug in the rear of the Head unit + antener.

If you can forward the link or detail of where I can get the mating harness that will be good.

I just realized you were down under. Wow. I'm not sure how to help you there. But there has to be places that sell what you need. Here is one of a zillion places to buy harnesses:

www.installer.com

But any aftermarket stereo supply will have them. Metra, Scosche, are just a couple of manufacturers of wire harnesses.

But I have a question for you. Every factory stereo that I've seen that has three plugs into the back of it has a subwoofer. You sure you don't have one? What color are your plugs? Black or gray? You should have 8, 16, 20 pin plugs if black (World style), and 8, 16, 24 pin plugs if gray (Phase II style). In either application, the 8 pin plug is the one that goes to the subwoofer. You should have 4 wires in that plug. Two are the signal to the subwoofer, one is enable, and one is ground. Now, that's the way it is on every one of these I've ever looked at, so if your's is different, then I have no idea what you have. But that is the way yours should be I believe.

Cobraguy

Thanks for the link.

I can confirm that no Sub is installed into my XLT however Ford Oz have said that it is an option on the next level up "Limited" as it is called in Oz.

I'm susspecting the wiring and 6CD unit is identical on both levels with the exclusion of the sub on the XLT. I will test this be removing one of the connector you had indicated may go to the sub.

Thanks for your help so far. I would include an image of the unit if I new how to do this.
