99 SPORT, 4.0 SOHC, 4WD. I know the headlights are supposed stay on for maybe thirty seconds or so in the dark after you turn the engine off but for the past week the headlights have been staying on for 2-5 minutes. It is not normal and recently started happening, the only thing done lately was replacement of the passenger side brakelight. Any info would help as I am worried about getting stuck in the morning with a dead battery if I forget to check on them. I checked all switches inside and everything looks right, i also searched the forum to no avail and cannot find any info in my Hanes. Thanks

if you have the autolamp system like i have on mine, here is a slider on the rearview mirror. slide it to the left for less time that they stay on and to the right for more time. if you go all the way to the left til it clicks, they will not stay on after you turn off the ignition. hope this helps

Thanks alot Abomb that was it.....Me and my dad starting laughing our azzes off after reading your reply. He was just messing with that a while ago and we didnt know what it was. You saved us a lot of hassle, I was ready to start tearing into things and creating a big headache for myself. Thanks again

GET OTTA HEAR!!!!!! hahhhahahhah i can't believe I have been wondering how come my lights have been staying on lately. When they did not do it before. 2 year old was in the front about 3 weeks ago and must of moved the switch. Abomb your da man....thank you

I found this out with my 99, as the lights were staying on what seemed forever.
However the switch would not stay to the left and off without holding it there.
I had to take the mirror all apart and bend the spring thing so it would stay clipped to the left. Works great now.

thats to funny. im glad im not the only one who has a "DUH" moment here and there. actually i have them alot. :)

I had my '97 for like 1.5 years and couldn't figure this out and it was really annoying. Finally, I decided to just read the manual to see what I could learn and that's when I had the DUH moment with that :)
