Hi everyone, can someone help me with a problem I'm having where my high beams stay on after the engine is turned off? I have a stock 96 explorer.
Thanks!

When this happened on my F150 it was a short in the multifunction switch that includes the hi/lo beam switch. In my case, it apparently took on some water when a window was left open during a rain storm. The wiring diagram for the 96 Ex that I have does not show a relay between the hi/lo switch and the high beam lamps. The short would be in the switch used to flash the hi beams in passing, etc.

I had to replace the Daytime Running Light module. Travis

Are your headlights staying on too, or just the light on the dash? I had that problem last week after my weird experience with my Ex. where some kind of fluid escaped from somewhere  My headlights would not go off even when I disconnected the battery for a minute, and re-attached the power. I then disconnected it for a couple hours and reset the computer. The lights and dash light have not given me the problem since.
Try that.

Gonna resurrect an old thread to see if there is some help out there for me. I had some problems with my main positive cable and while I was troubleshooting / replacing it my highbeam indicator decided to come on and stay on. I don't have the daytime running lights, so no module to replace (as far as I can tell). I disco'd the battery for a couple of days in an attempt to reset the computer, still no joy. I am not sure what relay I might be looking for, but the highbeam switch appears to work as expected. Any ideas? Also, should I be concerned enough to pull the batter lead through the week since I really only drive it on the weekends to the lake and whatnot?

Thanks!
