Headache!! Civilian center console install on PIU

Ask someone who works with vinyl reupholstering how to remove the lettering (P,R,N,D,S) without damaging that section.

Its laser engraver from the looks of it, i wrapped it.

I don’t understand why not just keep the police center and outfit as needed? Its comfy, more storage, just ordered the cup holders for it too and it doesn’t have a odd unused gear selector hole

Some members have 3D printed a small storage container for that open hole. There are pictures of it in the Forum.

The shifter lettering cannot be removed as it is designed to have a light behind it to illuminate the letters in a civilian Explorer. The only real course of action is to cover with vinyl. I found the perfect color match vinyl that matches the silver trim found in many PIU's. Here is the link to the video and the link for the vinyl is in the description.



I also make those center console shifter filler pockets. There are others printing them too but whatever option you go be sure not to use PLA or PETG materials. They will warp in the summer heat. Mine are made from carbon-fiber polycarbonate. Very strong UV-resistant material.

Is there a guide that explains to me like I'm 5 years old how to power the 12V in the base model Explorer console? I have a 2016 PIU. The base model console is in the PIU but I don't have any power going to it.

I've watched the videos of adding bluetooth and changing the console. I just want to power the 12V.

Hi I have a 2018 piu and have installed the civilian center console as well, but not sure what wires to tie into to add power to center console, again just looking to wire up the 12v to charge my cell phone, when the ignition is turned on, anything beyond that is gravy. Moderately handy except when it comes to electrical and I don't want to set myself up for a huge repair. Been watching the forum for awhile now perhaps there is a link with an explanation and I just have not found it yet. If thats the case any direction greatly appreciated.

You'll find that I was the last person to ask the question right before you. I ended up getting power to two cigarette outlets in my console - one in the front of the console and one under the armrest. I didn't bother with lighting the center console. The upfitter guide that was linked in the previous post helped a great deal. I also reviewed these videos:



The video recommends ignition power but I ended up using wires that would have been the cigarette/usb power for the old police console. If I'm not mistaken, if you look in the dash below the radio you'll find black and white wires that you'll connect to your civilian console. It'll be a two prong plug but if I'm not mistaken that plug isn't going to plug into your console. You're probably going to have to splice that wire. I used a couple of connectors instead of splicing by just taping with black tape.

Maybe one day I'll connect the cup holders and all that but I haven't gone that far.

This is a really comprehensive explanation. My original concern was tying into those could lead to a constant "draw" or worse but it sounds like that worked out for you based on the timing of the original post and now. I was just looking for some feedback around others experience of a single wire i could tie into and run a basic circuit from there. Thanks again

I haven't had any problems with draining my battery.
