1997 Ford Explorer XLT
I've got a 1997 Explorer XLT. The last time I turned the headlights on the panel lights worked and the running lights came on but low and high beam Headlights continued to sleep. I can illuminate the high beams by holding the flash lever but they're off again as soon as I release.

The switch appears to be difficult to get at and I've heard there are several possibilities so I don't want to turn a mechanic lose on a scavenger hunt. I'm new to this area and don't have any trusted resources.

Any suggestions on the best means of performing a diagnostic check? Any suggestions as to the fault?

Thanks

Use the Google search box near the top of every page and search for "1997 headlight switch". I found several threads on the subject. You should be able to decipher your problem from looking at a couple of those threads.

Headlight issue

Thanks for the reply Rick but your link took me to headlight switches for Chevy's and jeeps. My question is of all the available options for this problems what is the best diagnostic approach?

The guy at MacDonald's explained why it would probably be the multifunction switch. I will probably go with that advice unless something better comes from this forum.

Thanks Again

I doubt we can top the guy from McDonalds' advice ;) , but if you search for "1997 Explorer headlight switch, that might work better than "1997 headlight switch. :)
