Has anyone else had this malf? The lights stay on after
switch is turned off and even after ignition is turned off.
Disconnecting the batt seems to be the only way to turn them off, until the next time I need to use the lights.thx for any info...

Have you thought about a time delay on the headlights?? My mom's 95 Crown Vic has a time delay system for the headlights. They stay on for a couple of minutes after the ignition is turned off, I guess to light your way to the house. I'm not sure, but maybe the Limited Explorers have this option too.
How long do the lights stay on after the ignition is off??

You could pull the headlight fuse instead of disconnecting the battery. Look in your manual for the fuse number and location. This is a lot better for the truck that continued battery disconnection.

Sounds like your relay is frozen in the closed position.

Yes your limited should have an automatic headlight control which is in the rear view mirror. There is a slide switch on the mirror which controls the amount of delay, which I believe is up to five minutes. You should see a little green light lit on the mirror frame that tells you when this feature is activated. When I bought my 95 Limited, the switch was jammed, and someone had unplugged the cable that plugs onto the back of the mirror to disable it. I took the mirror apart, cleaned everything and it's worked fine since.

You should be able to switch the headlights off by first making sure the regular headlight switch is off, then sliding the switch on the mirrorr all the way to the left. If they still don't turn off, then unplug the cable from the back of the mirror until you can get it fixed.

Thx,folks for the input. It was the headlight delay feature. We didn't notice it was active as we normally don't use it. Whew! Glad that's all it was.

Glad to hear that there was nothing wrong $$$

If you still would like the auto headlights to go on at night, you can use the gfeature, but set the delay for only like 5 or 10 seconds. slide the slider on the mirror all the way to the left and they lights should go off pretty quick after you shut off the vehicle.
