Are there any companies that make a head unit the same size as the stock unit in 95+ X's?? I'm not to impressed with the CD player in the stock but don't want an aftermarket unit that's smaller than the stock unit. I don't like the looks of putting a compartment above or below an aftermarket head...

Put a screen where the stock unit is and move the A/C controls down into the center consol, then put an aftermarket unit where the controls used to be. Saw a guy on here do something similar to that. But the screen would have to mount flush... his didn't.

if you get a DVD head unit the screen pops out and you dont have to move that other stuff.. you have have it do funky pictures while ur listening to music and stuff....
im really not into that kinda thing.. i have a nice head unit and i think it looks fine (i actually have a different one now.. looks the same just upgraded for mp3)

lol, and dont dish the red knobs! i was bored 2 years ago... ive been looking for round ones that match the knob on my H/U.. if you happen to see those let me know.

hahaha... You should make the knobs "mulitcolor" that flash at night! ;)

I would love to put a NAV system in mine but I want everything to fit 100%. Also can't decide whether I want the screen to pop out or have it seperate...

Where did you get those switches on your center console? I have a green version that came with my Hella's and if I put my amp back in the X I want a switch to cut it on and off. So I want the same type switch.

i got the switches from radio shack. they light up at night! :D just not multicolor :p

the one on the left controls my two offroad lights aimed the the sides.
the second one controls my offroad light aimed straight forward
the third one is my system cut-off switch
the 4th is for my reverse lights
the last just has the wiring run to the rear for more reverse lights- didnt put them on cause it'd make the rear look guady...

lol- if you do it like i have, make sure you put a tag on each wire and label it- and have each set of wires per switch taped together w/ an index card to list where each goes... each switch is 3 wires- thats a lot of wires back there!

Autozone has green, blue, and red ones. I have those in my VW, very nice switches.

BTW, to cut down on the # of wires some of mine share power and ground wires; only the signal wires need to be separate. (if you're wiring properly with fuses and relays).

Yeah, I had my switch mounted in the center of that same spot in my 97 and I always thought just those three wires were a lot. But I also had the extra length of my RCA cables for CD Changer and amp bunched in as well.

It's good to know I can find the exact same switches for cheap. You know Sk1er, with my green and your red we could have the beginnings of a beautiful Explorer holiday card! :D

Alex, how many/what are your switches for?
