I currently have a 95 explorer xlt. It currently has power sideview mirrors but i was looking to upgrade to the heated power sideviews. I wanted to know if it would be a direct swap as being as simple as removing the old one and swaping it with the heated ones, or if there is some wiring invloved and exactly to what degree. If anyone has any info or can tell me where to get some it would be greatly appreciated. Thanx. -anthony-

You would have to add a wire to each mirror, for the heat element. Others have suggested that it works with the defroster circuit, so tap into that. Aquiring the extra connector ends from another used vehicle can make the connector plug in correctly, no loose wiring. Good luck,

That's a great idea! What years have the heated mirrors? Did those same years have it as an option? I'd like to try this too.

All Limited models had heated mirrors, I haven't needed them.

want to sell yours then?
i could have used them all this month here in illinois.

Is that what the plug in my door is for? When replacing the latch I found a plug in the door with just a cap on it. It that for heated mirrors? I was not able to find anything in the diagram on the CD. BTW I have a 1999 Sport

the wiring plug you found is not the right one. it is an all in one connection for the side mirrors, the harness controls the motor in the mirror and the heating element.

CDW is correct, you will need to find a pair of heated mirrors for your truck, wire up a power lead to a relay and the power leads from the relay to the mirrors. then wire up the kick on for the relay to the rear defrosts or to whatever power source you want, doesn't matter as long as it is a 12volt source, so you could actually put in your own switch for them if you wanted. both mirrors don't pull more then 15A.

i wish i had them on my xlt, freaking always frozen.

give me about two months when i'm on summer break for school and get some money i'll be doing a thorough write up when i add this nice addition to my xlt, step by step.

good luck
