Heater isn't working, in ANY of the settings... If I put it to the vents... very very little cold air will come out... rear blows air, but it's warmish cool air for the most part... sometimes it'll get hot.... Sometimes after driving for a long time, it would come back on... almost everytime it came back on I was stopped... but sometimes it did come back on when I was driving... I can only think of the relay (since it'll come back on randomly.. but hasn't in a long time.. it's coollld.. and I can't see out my windshield.., I don't think it's the blower motor...(since when it comes back on, it works flawlessly with no weird bad motor noises) what relay am I looking for? I checked all fuses and they're all good.. Help!

From looking at this, .. http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=180814
the relay is at the end of the box... does this commonly fail? Would a bad relay [specifically the one in the box under the hood] cause the issues I mentioned or would this only cause a no "high" output issue? From what I've read there's a resistor [no idea where it is] that controls low to mid.. and the relay turns on to give full power?... what exactly should I be looking for? Is it this relay or some resistor hidden somewhere?

What exactly are the symptoms of a bad relay? No output at all?
What about the symptoms of a bad resistor? (and where is it on the 5.0L) I was looking at it after seeing the SOHC thread on the issue and I don't seem to have that spot there that spring resistor thing was.

Which wires could I test to see what exactly is going on? Any ideas anyone?

Bump.

Got a new relay, no change. I have a new resistor but I haven't put it in yet.. got too dark for comfort, it was a pain trying to take the blower motor out... how do you guys do it? I removed the CC unit .. do I somehow have to remove the washer/coolant container? I think my blower motor Might be dead, but I wanna replace the resistor before I yank the motor... Is a Napa unit fine for the blower motor?.. I went to ford for the relay and resistor.

EDIT: Appears I MIGHT have been looking at the wrong relay? Relay #9 in the box on the driver's side? Or... one of the fuses in the box under the intake? People keep saying there's 3 in there... one for the fog lights.. one for the blower motor, and high speed blower motor relay? Which is what?.....

Alright, well.. I checked all fuses and they were good. So I went and checked the blower relay in the main power dist box and that changed nothing.. so I went to aux box #2 and changed out the only big relay in there.. with no change.. I checked the power connector to the blower motor and found that it did have power.. so that left one thing.. the blower motor.. which I changed out and now I have heat.. Although, I didn't change out the resistor... Ford sold me the wrong part and I just wanted to get it all back together. Heater works now!
