Heater Problems on 97 Explorer

I have a 97 Explorer with heater problems. I was searching the web for answers today and was amazed to find how many people with 97 and 98 models having the same problem.

I have read a little about blend door problems. I noticed a lot of you seem to know your way around Explorers. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? Do I have to buy a new one, or is there an easier fix. When I turn my heat on, all I get is cold air. It's cold here and I have done without the heat in this vehicle for almost 2 years! I need help!

Search for "Blend door, so you're cold, cheap, and lazy." Mine went bad 2 years ago and I did this 15 minute fix. No need to be without heat. I havent bothered to do anything more.

Those threads up above are from searching "blend door", but you can also try others in that search. Those are just a couple that really helped me to replace my plenum (well I didn't, but at least i knew how to diagnose it).

Thanks for the replies. I actually found a site with a quick fix by removing an actuator box and inserting a pin into it. My hubby did this and the heat seems to be working now.........glorious heat! Anyway, I don't know how long this quick fix will last, but it only took a few minutes and for now I have heat! Here's a link in case any of you are interested:

Dont overlook a very easy fix. Replace radiator cap..is you truck getting to mid rande on gauge? If not it could be t-stat and/or cap. Start with cap.
