I have an 02 sport trac. When I turn the heat or defrost on there is a burnt oil or burning rubber smell coming in.After driving for a few minutes it seems to go away.Sometimes you can turn the heat off and back on and that will make the smell go away. I have noticed a small amount of smoke coming from under the hood.
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Dont know if this will help/ On my 94 ranger when I turn on the heat I also get an oil smell, I figure it is coming from the oil on the exhaust manifold from where the valve covers are leaking a little bit. Once it gets run and hot it seems to stop. If I just drive it for a mile or 2 and shut it down it looks a lot worse than it really is. So I would check for oil leaking or seeping on the the exhaust, 1st.

Thanks, I will look for oil leaks this weekend and see what I come up with.
