I have a 2006 Ford Explorer XLS. I had the actuator on the heating cooling unit replaced about 6 months ago.. I can get heat,or cool air--no problem. The fan works great. The problem is that it seems not to be putting out the volume of air that it used to. The coolant level is fine, and it does not leak. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? Thank You!

Well what has been changed when it was working fine with volume of air. If the blower is work at all speed settings then check the cabin air filter if your year has one. Leaves etc on the intake under the hood can also block air coming in.

Nothing has changed. The cabin air filter is fine. The blower motor works at all speeds, the heater hoses under the hood are hot. It just seems to not have the volume of either hot,or cold air coming out of it. No obstructions on the intake.

No idea then since you did not drain the coolant there wouldn't be an air pocket impeding coolant flow. So if coolant is flowing and air is passing through the core (directed by the blend doors correctly) heat will get picked up and sent somewhere depending on door positions..

I am wondering if a door broke. I heard that this was a common thing on the Fords, and Mopars of that era. I was wondering if any one else has had the same experience

One thing I noticed right away on my Explorer after I bought it was that the fan seemed anemic with the amount of air coming out of the vents. I finally figured out that it was because no matter where it was set - some air was coming out the side vents to clear the side windows and the defrost vents to clear the windshield. When I put it on defrost, it puts a lot more air there but it seems to me that the system was designed to not blast you from one place but rather to spread the air out over multiple vents. Don't forget the vents behind the console that it has to supply also. Are you sure you aren't just noticing it more since you had something replaced?

I am not noticing anything more. On the High setting,it used to roast me out in about 10-15 highway miles. Now,after 40 miles,it doesn't,and the cabin isn't all that warm. The steering wheel is only cool,at best!

Are you sure your fan is OK - that it didn't lose the highest setting?

Do you have a scan tool that can monitor the coolant temp? Maybe time for a system flush and new thermostat.
