03 Explorer XLT
Hi everyone,
I have a 2003 Explorer XLT and the last couple of weeks the temp gauge has gone up.
Usually after I have been driving for about 10 to 15 min the temp gauge will go up to almost H then drop back down to normal. Once this happens after cold start only it stays normal the rest of the time without going up again. Almost seems like a sticky thermostat if thats possible. As soon as it opens the first time to let in the coolant its ok but takes higher heat than normal to open it that first time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Rob

I agree with you Rob, I think your t-stat is sticking. Better change it out before it stays closed too long and the engine overheats.

Thanks I will wasn't sure if they could stick thought they either worked or didn't.
when I changed the thermostat in my 1993 Explorer i had to get to the water pump is this still the case for the 03
