I think i need a new clutch, I have (75 hard K) Offroading, pulling a heavy 20ft boat to Big Bear, ect. a trailer with three quads and a few bikes.

For the last few months it's been hard to get it into 1st.

What are some of the better clutches out there?

And about how much to get it in stalled?

If you're having issues with just getting to first it's not the clutch its the transmission. If it's hard to get it into all the gears and it grinds going into reverse it might be the clutch and related components. I just put a luk pro gold series clutch in my truck and i've been happy with it so far, though if i had the money i would have gone with a centerforce, they're one of the best clutches out there.

It's just first, mabie reverse sometimes i think.

shifts fine & still lights the tires up but when i hook the boat up & pull it up the driveway it slips a little and gets stinky fast.

sounds like the problem I just had recently...sometimes I had to try with all my might to get into first, almost bending the shifter in the middle of traffic (especiialy when it was hot) and it pretty much ended up being the master, slave and clutch (They were all each at leas 50000 miles old anyways) I got a centerforce II which is supposed to be good with towing and provides 60% more grip supposedly...im happy with it, but its no duel friction (so i hear)

i had the same problem with my 91' sport

sometime it would go into 1st just fine but then sometimes i would crank it up and couldn't get it in 1st and would have to start with 2nd so i just got a new stock clutch for 150 bucks and i have had a problem since

Thanks for the Centerforce tip.

I'm going to order a Centerforce Dual Friction set up

It comes with the Pressure Plate as a set, so i think all i need is the throw bearing, & slave cylinder. does that sound right. Oh, do i need to get the flywheel re ground?

Thanks

could be your tranny syncros too. I know mine went a while back and caused pretty much the same problems.

What you're describing sounds like a slave cylinder problem, if you pull the tranny you might as well replace the throwout bearing, and clutch as well since it's a ***** to get out. It's not really a ***** per se, but just time consuming. It's also a good idea to get the flywheel machined, it only will cost around 20 bucks so might as well to break in the new clutch.

i just did this on our 97 ex. i had a hard time putting it into first and reverse. we replaced the clutch, pressure plate, slave cylinder, and pilot bushing in the flywheel. also had the flywheel resurfaced. used mobil 1 synthetic tranny fluid and it drives like a dream.

if your doing the install yourself I would say "yes and no" to the bearing and flywheel...if you have the skill, which I really dont, to know whether you need them replaced/machined respectively, then check...but if a mechanic is gonna do the install he will check for that or ask him to check and if he thinks it needs replacing he will replace it...I didnt need the bearing replaced and the flywheel was in good shape so I just had the slave master and clutch put in and everything is working great . and i would definetly use the pressure plate from centerforce...but definetly make the call on the flywheel and bearing
