Welcome to the forum from another old fart also 67 YO.

Welcome to the site.

Hello Fellow Old Fart!
Thank you for the welcome.

I see that your 99 Explorer has the SOHC 4.0 like ours also has.
In the last 24 years the Wife and I have managed to put 140,000 miles on her. I have changed the oil every 4,000 miles using only Mobil 1 full synthetic and she runs like a champ.

Q. Do you ever feel like your sitting on a ticking time bomb with our early timing chain tensioners?

If and when I hear The Death Rattle I plan on doing the job myself with the Ford SST Tool and maybe a timing set from Cloyes. I plan on doing it with the engine in and not pulling it out. If you go to a Dealership they yank it out. That scares me as good wrench turners are scarce nowadays.

How many miles do you have on yours?
Any problems?

Marcus

Or ford stands for the old fix or repair daily. Lol

We do not feel we are sitting on a ticking time bomb. The current 99 Sport has 130K miles, the previous 99 Sport my wife had we had bought new when I was working at a Ford dealership it went to 280K miles before we sold it. The only thing I did to that engine was I replaced the hydraulic chain tensioners.
