Hello to Everyone,
So glad to have found this forum. I just wanted to introduce myself and say Hi. As noted in the title, I just picked up a 1996 4 Door Explorer XLT with the OHV 4.0 and a 5 Speed Manual. The rig has 98K miles on it and has been pretty well cared for over the years. I did have some questions as to what direction I should take with it which I will post under the correct vehicle generation thread. Got it as a back up for my 04 GMC Yukon that has 232K miles on the clock.
Cheers!
Steve

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a nice find with the 5 speed transmission and low miles.

Thanks Rick I appreciate it. The 5 Speed is what had peaked my interest on it for sure. I had never considered one before and was not aware they even offered them in a manual. The combo reminded me of my 98 Tacoma that I had and drove the wheels off of. Just seems to me as a casual observer that the quality was much better on the older cars (up to maybe early-mid 2000s) vs all this super tech loaded and complex new stuff

I bought my '93 Explorer new with a 5 speed, manual transfer case and manual hubs. It's been through hell and back, having been lifted and put on 33" tires when it only had 500 miles on it. It has since been through numerous changes and it just keeps on going like the Energizer bunny. ;)

That is so awesome 😎 I love it, very encouraging. Your rig looks like an absolute beast!

ive been replying in your other thread, but id like to extend a formal welcome! these rigs just keep going, as rick said liek the energizer bunny. this one has 332k on the OE engine & trans (only internal work was the PRIMARY timing chain guides at 310k), other than that just fluid and filter changes. this has seen DD duty, been used as a tow rig, and more and more now as an off-roader. it just keeps coming back for more! cant kill these things, great little trucks, these and the rangers. id say the 90s was the peak for ford. some tech liek EFI and airbags that are nice to have, but nothing too complex.

Thank you very much, love the things you have said in regards to reliability, durability, a bit of some modern tech like the EFI and airbags as well as still being not overly complex. . Thanks again.
