HELP! 03 Signal Light Problem- not a bulb

03 XLT V6. Im having a problem with my X, started a couple months ago as intermittent but now is constant. If you've even had a bulb blow, you are aware of the fast paced blinking.

Symptons:
- The pass side blinker is going crazy- fast heart attack paced
- The blinker noise is funny- louder and a different kind of chirp
- When problem first started, blinker would be normal speed then increase as it was still on.
- Currently ALWAYS goes crazy, but only on pass side

Other notes: LED tails, clear corners, doesn't make funny sound with 4-ways or drivers side on.

It is really annoying and even more so embarassing on the road. Any help or suggestions appreciated

Well start by doing a visual check. Look at the driver side (front and back, flashing yes/no). If ok make note and switch to passenger side, same checks. No are all the bulbs flashing.

- Four way uses the same circuits only the flasher is different.
- if you above check is normal and lamps working on the drivers & passenger side I would say you have bad bulb on the passenger side. Even though its working an element has broken and fallen across the other inside(dual elements in them bulb, running light and brake element). You might be able to tell which one by observing the illumination and compare to the other side. Otherwise you'll have to pull the bulbs.

replaced the front bulb- even though it was working fine some of the amber was flaking off- and my rear tail is the complete LED aftermarket tail light. All the LED's are working. In case it was something wrong with that, I put in a bulb like it used to have and the light is flickering like a blown bulb. Could it be as simple as a blown fuse? Does anyone know where it would be to replace it?

Have you simply just tried changing the flasher unit itself?

That would be step one for me. If not that, are we having multifunction switch problems here too?

do the tail light leds have a resister? is the resister burnt out? Check the flasher Relay, they do burn out...get the motorcraft one if you replace it.

this isn't really gonna help, but you could just do what i do an not use the turn signal... but that is dangerous and a ... but i'm smart enough and use it when i see cops

hahahahahaha I know, but I love using my signals- mainly to show off my tail lights. I get other explorer owners with eddie bauers and limited's and they always ask, well mine is top of the line so how come mine doesn't have it? XLT sport so at least it looks like an eddie bauer having the finished lower trim. But back to topic! Its solved! $15 part from autozone and for dealer only charged 12.99 to put it in. I tried myself and it was a pain in the- well u know. They were goin at it for an hour. I was ready to pull out $100 bill and was shocked when they only charged me that. Nice people and i will continue to take my truck there! Thanks for the help guys.

I just fixed this same problem in my 03. The problem is with the turn switch in your steering column. Read this thread that I posted about it.

gsm- it was just the flasher Relay. got it at autozone. easy fix. but whats a little weird is now the click noise sounds different and the tempo of the signal is off... kinda like any GM in the 80's and early 90's... long short long short etc etc.... i feel like im only one of a few people to notice things like that.. I did use a universal relay and not a motorcraft one... could be...
