Help 97 explorer

Driving home i herd a rattaling in the front end. I got home looked under and its coming from the front drive shaft going to the transfercase. I can rotate it back and forth and its making noise. Anybody no what this is? Thanks

Its a all wheel drive.

It looks ripped on the inside where the drive shaft goes. What is this? Thanks

Do you mean the shaft that runs from the wheel to the differential with rubber boots on each end?

No. I got it out a little while ago. I took it to autozone and it was 277.00 i guess i will be running 2 wheel drive for awhile. Its the front drive shaft.

Just beware of the fact that if u park on a hill, set your e-brake. You wont harm anything running it without the front driveshaft

Dont know how you feel about used ....... but theres one on e-bay right now for $75.00 as a "buy it now" price. Claims to only have 85207 miles on it.

Thanks for the link. Just looked a pullapart by me and the have 7 explorers so im gonna go see tomorrow. Maybe ill get lucky and they will have one. Would you no what all yrs will work for my 97 ?
