HELP 99 explorer 4.0 sohc need intake gaskets replaced,

i am currently needing my intake gaskets replaced on my 1999 explorer 4.0 sohc, i have rough idle on cold starts,truck runs fine after that first start,,mass air flow is cleaned and i have a good dpfe sensor,, my ? is instead of paying a shop, would it be just as safe if i just had a really good mechanic friend of mine do it, iknow the parts are cheap ,but is the job easy? i have read that this is VERY common with this year truck,the rough idling on cold start,and other symptoms and no one being able to figure it out,, and it ending up being the gaskets and o rings the whole time,aside the dirty MAF and a bad DPFE...... HELP

Me and a friend of mine replaced my valve cover gaskets and the upper intake gaskets in an evening - beer included. It is not a very difficult job, especially if your friend is a mechanic.

yea, if your buddy knows what he's doing, its a job that shouldnt take more then a hour and a haft, tops. you dont even have to drain coolant
