A few months ago my stock radio button lights quit working (Display/Clock is still fine). Also, when I turned on my lights, the "Speed Control" light would disappear, only to re-appear when my lights were shut off. Then, last week I turned my headlights on and nothing on my cluster lit up. All my fuses are fine. Anyone had this happen, and more to the point, has anyone successfully fixed this. Thanks in advance.

Do your interior lights work when the doors open? Not insulting your intelligence, but make sure the dimmer control thumbwheel isn't turned all the way off... i've done it myself

yeah, dome lights work fine. doesn't matter where my dimmer is set.

Are your daylight driving lamps working? If not, see the thread on repalcing the sensor.

Good Luck,

Denis

I don't have daylight driving lamps? My autolamps work fine, as do fog lights, parking lamps, and everything else.

My father's X had this same problem....

I will ask him how the mechanic fixed it but...if I remember correctly it was the stupid bulb/LED behind the Speedo... The Radio lights are not part of the same system as the Speedo/dash lights.

I would check the relays and the bulb...although Not sure how to change the bulb.

I will check though....

Mine does the exact same thing! my 4wd indicators go out when the headlights are turned on, and my speed control and od light no longer function, but the systems work fine. i have no radio lights, but the display works. post a fix asap please!

Sounds like an awfully common problem, let's force Ford to do a recall.

can someone update the fix for this as both our Explorers are having this problem.

We have my daughter's 97 LTD and are trying to get the bugs out for her. She's been living with these problems for a long time.

When she would turn on her headlamps, her radio control lights would blink on and off with a mind of their own. She later noticed that with the headlamps on, her O/D light would go out as well as the 4 WD indicator light. Searching here, talking to Ford and looking at the Wiring Diagram, it seemed like the headlamp switch or the multifunction switch might be the cause. So far, both of them have been replaced and the problem is still there.

Last night, I was telling my daughter about our progress on her car. She mentioned that a couple of years ago, before the radio control lights completely died, she could get them to come on by wiggling the dimmer switch sideways. Gradually, that "fix" no longer worked for her. I mentioned this to my husband. His EB is doing the same thing but still in the blinking stage. On his way home, he wiggled his dimmer switch and sure enough--his radio control lights, etc., would come on and off.

Anyway, we think we are onto something here with the dimmer switch if I can get him to take that area apart--again.
