I have a '91 explorer and recently when I put the car in park sometimes the engine all the sudden revs up and started idling around 2k rpm! This doesn't happen every day but it's starting to happen often. Anyone know what is the cause for this? Please help a newb out.

I tmight be wise to search for " Idle air control valve" ...

Welcome to the site....:D

Thanks for the welcome.
By your response I am assuming this is a common problem. I did a search on the topic and found people with problems similar to mine but not exact.
Is this something simple I can do or is a dealer type problem.
I don't know diddly about these cars I spend all my time working on my Camaro :D

It's a fairly common thing. I had to replace mine. I had a different problem tho. My truck has an erretic idle and would stall when coasting. It is very easy, and can be done yourself in a few minutes. Oh and welcome to the site :D

Does your Ex happen to be running hot when it does this??? Check your temp gauge next time it happens, cause if the engine is running hot, the computer will bump up the idle to try and cool the engine off.
