I believe the dealer has it.. Search the forum, the Timing Chain and the Timing CHain Tensioner has been discussed a few times..

it cost me just over $500 cdn. in parts to replace all 4 chains and all the guilds and tensioners, the labour i did my self from pulling the engine and striping it down installing the parts .plus i paid my machine shop $100 to set the timing since i wasn't going to pay $300 for the timing tool kit for a one time use.

If you are sure that the chains need to be replaced. Then I would have to say a new engine may be a cheaper option. Changing the chains is a complex job that requires removal of the engine and special tools to time it all up again. The tool alone will cost you up wards of £250.

you'll find there's someone on e-bay, in Aylesbury, who claims to be an explorer expert and can do it for £650 Best of luck

I just got my Ex back today, after getting the front timing chains fixed (the back one was ok).

In the end, they didn't need to remove the engine. I was charged £680 +VAT, which I though was pretty good considering Ford wanted "at least" £1000. Have to say, that the engine has never sounded better :-)

If it's of any use to anyone, I used Chadderton Motor engineers: 0161 652 3338
