2003 Ford Explorer
Hello, I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Centennial Edition 4.6L and I cannot find anywhere to get the yaw rate sensor to replace. It is located under back seat and I think it is part number 3L2Z-3C296-AA but not sure. My mechanic is having trouble finding one anywhere including junk yards. I have searched car parts on internet and no one carries this item. Tried Ebay but cannot find either. Does anyone know how to source this part, new, used, refurbished?? Thank you

welcome to EF!!!!!!

Back again, part number under 2nd row middle seat carpet from my truck is 3L24-3C296-CA. Went to junk yard and found 2003 Eddie Bauer that seemed to be equipped the same as mine. Pulled out the seat, pulled up the carpet, nothing like this existed to my dismay. Cannot understand why the junkyard car does not have a location for this, nor the part. Cannot find ANYTHING on this part number on internet. My mechanic says maybe 2003 Ford Explorers made in Canada have it under the console. My car is made in USA, but did not think to check the door jamb on the one at the junkyard. Frustrating not to be able to find a part or a refurbished/alternative part!!!!! Anyone have any ideas?

Here's a -BA version. Now I see your actual part # and the 4 versus Z are different too.

Thank you. I appreciate that. I have no idea if that part would work in lieu of the OEM part. I will ask around and try to figure that out if I cannot find the OEM part somewhere soon.

This part isnt a common part at all to be replaced without any evidence of mechanical damage or badly corroded inner sensor components.thats why you cant find one.this part is extremely reliable, and the junkyards never removing em for internet sales.

Ask your mechanic to see the inner sensor components, with no signs of damage no way for this parts to became bad.might be wrong diagnosis.

Try pinpoint tests for the whole ABS to YAW sensor connectors and wires prior to sensor replace. sensor connector pins to be perfectly cleaned .then try to lecalibrate with IDS or Forscan,at perfectly flat surface, wheels on the ground.

With the calibration completed, see YAW sensor PIDs for good specs.

The YAW sensor/RSC/ABS error codes mistakely might be understood as a bad sensor.

I am unable to find this part, but given enough effort, you might be able to adapt something to work.

Rock Auto has several yaw rate sensors available, but nothing tied to 2003 Explorer compatibility. You might take a good look at yours and note the shape and connector pin arrangement to try to find a nearest match and/or use further investigation of adapting different sensors to work.

Standard Motor Products Listings:

Here are some alternative motorcraft part #'s to search for:
3L2Z-3C296-AA (4WD version?)
3L2Z-3C296-BA (2WD version? IDK what difference it would make)
2C5Z-3C187-AB

3C187 or 3C296 - anything with these strings in the part # - I do NOT suggest that any of these would work, just that it's the remaining piece of info on trying to find new old stock motorcraft parts that "might" be electrically compatible even if the connector needs changed.

I'd also check your connectors and wiring, as I have read that this part is not one that often fails... but that could be before it gets to be ~22 years old, everything has a lifespan.

Thanks for the information, I just bought this Explorer last December, it had lived in a garage and only had 13,500 miles on it. I'll look around and see what i can find, something hopefully, again thanks.

Hello, I think I was the OP here. Congrats on that 2003 Centennial. Love mine and it has been a good truck, still is. Anyway, I was able to resolve this. You can read the other posts I was involved in. I will provide names of the posts below but won't be able to provide much more help, and would prefer not to remind myself of the nightmare. Read for yourself, I posted all about the journey, and I think it may be helpful to you. Best of luck.

We can't see your first link to "Yaw rate sensor update question" which appears to be a PM directly to you, only.

However, the part # referenced in your 2nd link, is available used on ebay... at least I think the minor part # differences won't matter but I could be wrong:

You might be able to search the forum by keywords (yaw). Regardless, if that's indeed the part on ebay, I'd buy it if I were in this position, because they are difficult to source. You can also search my posts, I don't have too many. Reading about the great help I received here and my process should be helpful to someone dealing with this issue. Thanks for all the information , I'll check out the E Bay site and start looking at the salvage yards.
