HELP! flex plate bolts on 93 a4ld

trying to remove that pos a4ld, and its giving one hell of a fight. it seems the studs are too close to the side of the flex plate for me to get the socket on there. do i need some special tool or something? help! trying to get this out tonight to get the new one started in tomorrow!

Are they the bolts that hold the flexplate to the crankshaft?

no, its the bolts that hold the flex plate to the torque converter, or i guess they are more like studs
