I currently have to get a new transfer case for my 99 explorer sport due to a messed up chain. I want to know if i should by a rebuild kit for the current transfer case, go to a junk yard and get a used one, or by a new one? Do sell any high performance rebuild kit to take the beating and last longer?

get a 13-54 man shift for the 4.0 all you need is a 1354 t-case out of a first gen or about same year of ranger. Make sure you get the linkage for it. Just grab a front driveshft also from a first gen. The rear will still work fine. Everything will bolt right up. The only mod you'll have to do is cut a small hole in the floor. That's it. It's probally a 45min swap at the very most.

The 13-54 is not a bad alternative, but that wasn't his question. He asked about replacing his current one with a like unit.

I believe (without looking at the diagrams, so don't quote me) that any case from a 95-01 will physically bolt in. However, the 95-96 cases use a slightly different front output shaft, but the shaft from the donor vehicle should work, and the speed sensor(s) on the old t-case may need to be re-wired. Avoid a '97 t-case at all costs. It has a completely different front output shaft and driveshaft (PITA CV style). I don't see any reason that one from a 98-01 wouldn't work, as long as it's a 44-05 (selectable range) not a 44-06 (All Wheel Drive).

As for the options, it depends on the age and condition of the vehicle, your plans for it, and your available funds. Can't really be much help on that evaluation... sorry...

thanks for the ads guys really helpfull. My 99 explorer sport has 192,000 miles and bought it with 55,000 has been great had it for 6 years. So a new t-case would be better than to rebuld. If so do you have any website recommendation to purchase one.

Have you considered a Atlas 2 transfer case? I know that it is not a factory replacement, but you will never have a problem ever again.

Where can i order an atlas 2 transfer case ,and how much do they usually cost?
