If my '96 Explorer had a block heater, where might the plug end be hidden away so I can plug it in? We've had -35 for 3 nights now - started ok the first 2 days but wouldn't go today. Sucks when you have to call your boss to drive you to work Would be even worse to have no ride for the weekend....any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Most vehicles sold in Canada have a block heater. It can take a while to track down the plug though.
They usually put the plug somewhere behind the grill. Look around the hood release and all around the radiator. The one in my Mustang has a cover over the prongs on the plug and it was nearly invisible, even with a flashlight. Look at the lower rad hose, as they usually strap the cord to the lower hose. That is if it has been lead to the front.
A friend of mine had an Oldsmobile that had the plug hidden really good. A mechanic told her that she didn't have one and offered to install one for $150.00. I spent 5 minutes before I found the plug...
Once you find it, pull it through the grill, or as some do, out the gap between the hood and the fenders or grill. Get a good outdoor extension cord and your in business...
you might check your frost plugs too alot of times here the block heater is installed at the factory but the dealer has to install the cord which they dont always do if you dont buy the winter upgrade package. good luck
