Hello I have a '93 Explorer and I am replacing the factory stereo but I am having problems removing it. I am using the radio removal tools (prongs) but it seems to be stuck. Any advice would be much appreciated.

if you have the R&R tools your half way there, just push them in gently till they click, then gently push outward on both handles and pull (picture pick a post hole digger)

I was trying to pull the factory stereo on a 91 ranger (same setup as our) but the tabs that hold the radio in the dash were bent so far out that the prongs couldn't catch them.

The final solution was a lot of :hammer: and taking the radio out in pieces.

you have to remove the dash panel. first take out the ashtray, then take out the two screws that were behind it. the rest of the dash panel should just be held on by plastic clips. just remove it slowly so they dont break.

then use the din removal tools and it will just slide out.

on the 92 x's on down this is correct, however on the 93 x's and up there are no screws or other obstructions for taking out a factory hu

armand - you may want to take a look at the main thread Dead Link Removed in the audio section, not sure but i think this is all covered.

Hey TStone thanks for the advice. It didn't take that long once I figured it out. Put in the prongs then bent them outward and it came right out! Once again thanks for all the advice.
