how do you run the signal wire from the headunit for the amp in the back? Under the dash, or under the carpet or what?

i usually run wires under the carpet. it's not that hard. start behind the dash where the carpet begins. then take off the plastic trim by the doors. and tuck it under the carpet.

How do I get it to the side from the back of the radio? I dropped the glovebox and still can't see how i'm going to do it. Any ideas?

try shining a flashlight to find a clear path for the wire to run. if you cant get the wire through with your hand, try using a wire hanger to guide it.

all right i'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanx
For the power wire should I run it from the fusebox or from the battery and what amperage fuse should I be using?

run the power wire from the battery. and put the fuse only a few inches from the battery. use a fuse that is at least the same amperage as the fuse(s) on your amp.

Underneath the plastic step panel trim is a brown/black plastic piece that can easily pop out with a flathead screwdriver. If you take that off, you'll find a small canal where all the Ford wire bundles run. You can use that, to totally keep the wires out of the way, there's plenty of room.

Leenjen,
did you get a new dome light cover yet?

thanks for sending that link to the auction for the light. unfortunately, it wasn't the exact size. right now i'm just riding around with no dome light. i hate the way ford designed them, too many pieces to move around and break. i'm in the planning stages of my new system, and i'm seriously considering a fiberglass dash and door panels. i'll probably redo the whole interior (except seats) including the ceiling. maybe i'll make a custom domelight with fiberglass and thin plexi.

thanks again for the email

where in the firewall can I run the power-wire through, of do I have to drill a hole?

I was able to put all of my power wires through a rubber gromet that was on the firewall almost directly behind the brake peddle at a height level with about the middle of the brake peddle lever if that makes sense.

Soory for the delay but work has been busier than all Hell.It is normally pretty easy to get wires to the radio opening. I normally take the glove box out and get easy access to the dash.
I run the wire in the factory holder under the plastic sill panels.
As far as power goes how big of a cable are you running. Some times you can pull through a factory grommet. If yuor amp has a fuse on it I put a fyse at the battery of the same size or 5 amps more. If there is no fuse use what size the manufactures says.

I would personally like to thank JTang for posting this message! It saved me countless hours of running cables under the truck (Yecchh!) for my power cable and light switch control cable for my Rack mounted lights!

I followed his directions and found the canal! Ran my cables in 30-40 Minutes!!!!!

THANK YOU JTANG!!!!!!!

i drilled an hole right under the blower motor...seems to work good plus you are right on the side where you can run the cable thru the side ;)

You're welcome JammnG4Jim!!! Yeah, when I found that canal, I felt a huge sigh of relief too!

well, i'm finally off work for long enough to finish it up. Kinda sucks to have the back half of your explorer half-hangin on for like a month.
