Kia and Hyundai non push to starts. There’s also a few models of a few makes that come without them. It’s on 95%+ of the new cars sold.

It has nothing to do with Ford. Virtually every car used immobilizers and chip keys.
You have to buy permission from ford to program the keys! I tried with other obd2 programmers and they could not gain access to PATS system in fords! But it was still a lot cheaper than a locksmith or having it towed to a dealership to have keys programmed and I learned a lot and can do a lot with this programmer for $10/year!

forscan is not a ford program

I have a Subaru with the H6 sideways engine also that I’ve had to learn about, it’s all a learning experience. First time in my life to work on vehicles, except for oil change or something easy like replacing filters. It’s been something!

boxer plugs.................... :angryfire:

That’s what I got was forescan and went to ford website(motorcraft, I think) to register it and paid the $10 to. It worked is all I know!
huh i thought it wasnt ford. hm will have to look into it

I have a 2002 sport trac that key cylinder broke and getting it out it fell apart! We bought a new one with transponder keys and found out we would have to hire a locksmith to come program it! Long story short after trying everything, I bout a VEEPEAK MS(for MS-CAN & OBD 2). It connects to OBD port and laptop at the same time and costs abou $30 on Amazon. Also ordered correct transponder keys for my model(less than $2 each) you can find this on ford website. Returned key cylinder with transponder keys, got new key cylinder without transponders, took no transponder and new not cut transponder keys to be cut at Walmart, paid ford $10 for a year of use to be able to program or diagnose with OBD 2 , get into a program on computer to register and everything is explained step by step on how to do everything! It sounds like a lot but for less money than the original key cylinder with transponder keys, I have the ability and license to use the OBD2 programmer for a year on any ford! We tried bypassing PATS SYSTEM, but without original cylinder and keys it won’t work on a ford! You do have to make sure the keys ordered from Amazon are the right ones for your year and model ford also! It’s a good and bad thing about fords, it prevents theft, but dang if it isn’t aggravating figuring it all out! Hope this helps! By the way, I’m an old woman and if I can do it! LOL
From another senior lady, you go girl! Was it the official Ford website where you got $ 2.00 keys? I have to get 1 of 3 keys programmed now. (probably have to do all 3 at once.) And what is the name of the program you paid to use? Thanks in advance. Update: I think you meant Forscan.

FORScan has no affiliation with Ford. It surely doesn’t need to be licensed to Ford, or Motorcraft. If you have two working keys you can always make more for free with nothing but the car.

The version of forscan that can do programming, is the free windows version, with an extended license trial (or paid) from Forscan which is a russian developer.

Wherever you went on Ford's website, was not needed. Can you link to that page?

Not quite sure that I buy that, as I have a 3rd party spare... think it's an Ilco H72, and there are thousands of reviews on Amazon for 3rd party keys.

That doesn't necessarily mean there aren't bad keys or wrong for this generation. I'd just get an Ilco as they may be the world's largest aftermarket, not a fly by night generic maker. I would not buy a key if it was just called H72 as some other generics might call theirs that, rather that it's a genuine Ilco.
To clarify I mean off Amazon "This fits your car" generic keys that have crappy Chinese chips in them. If you get the same manufacturer that Ford uses to make their keys that is equal to OEM. OP is creating "master" keys here so needing dealership or Forscan!

I used Forscan to program new master pair of keys. (FYI also there is a max of 8 keys that can be in the immobilzer) Sounds like OP could program it all up with a $15 bluetooth OBDII adapter and +$10 for Forscan like I did. None of those cheap rounded amazon keys would talk to the explorer.

Quick summary: Don't get the rounded head keys. Square shaped should have the proper chip that can talk to this Gen. If the locksmith replies "foreskin, what?" then don't use them.

I bought the keys on Amazon, but look at ford website to make sure which one matches your vehicle! I got the keys cut at Walmart and they did it for free, I guess since the didn’t have to program them! The name of the program is forescan, that I got from ford website. The OBD2 scanner/programmer is VEEPEAK MS. Just read details under product and it will let you know if it will program or just diagnose DTC s. Hope this helps! Walmart sells and programs transponder keys now also. Not sure what they charge!

My 2001 doing same thing I going to send it to scrap yard and will never buy a ford again, 1000.00 in to it replaced everything and had locksmith tell me he couldn't program it any one know how to bypass system completely it's costing me 25 a day where it's sitting and been there a month
