With another one of the many storms the Esat Coast has been having, we decided to remove snow from my grandma's Ford Focus. So we dug it out and used our shovels to remove snow from the roof, hood, and front and rear windows.

My mom was using a plastic shovel and I was using a metal one. When I was picking up snow off the windshield, my shovel went a little too deep and scraped against the windshield making a screetching noise like nails on a chalkboard. I didn't notice the scratch until I was use an ice scraper to remove the light stuff.

I tried using invisible glass to see if that would fill the scratch a little bit, but it didn't. I might try rain-x on it because it's like wax for windows. Does anybody else have any other suggestions. I will be in deep trouble if I can't get that scratch out.

Metal shovel?!? :O

Good links above. The Rain-X won't do anything, you would need an abrasive or a filler.

Yah, I was only using the metal shovel to get the fot and half or so of snow off, trying to be careful not to go too deep, but I did.

I was able to lessen the scratch with whitening toothpaste and a polishing pad on a dremel. I did not have any ammonia to clean it off with after, so I used white vinegar. I'll wait for a nice day where I can retry this process without any substitutes. Either that, or I will try something from an autoparts store. Thanks for your help.

It'll take some work, but I'm sure you can get it out...

I was going to link up to some Meguiars links, but all of them seem to be old and the pics are dead. They were using mostly Cerium Oxide, or THIS product.

I know how you feel, snow sucks unless your playing in it:exp:
