I have a 2002 explorer 4x4 and it just started a grinding sound in the rearend. Almost like its binding up just at takeoff, I had the rearend rebuilt 14,000 miles ago at a ford dealer because of the same problem. Does anyone have advice?,:us:

Well if it's a limited slip differential you need to make sure you have that posi-trac additive in the gear oil or it'll chatter up a storm in the rear end. Otherwise if that doesn't help I would definitely take it back to ford to have them see if they messed up. Otherwise if it's not from the rear end you might want to check your bearings, or u-joints, or even your brakes. Good luck

Thanks I'm going to take a look and see what's going on tomorrow. The dealer that replaced all the parts with new ones has told me it was out of warranty, so it won't be going back there. When I start out from a dead stop it sounds like something in the rear end is binding up just like a sticking caliper, but as I gain speed it stops. It's definitely the rear end.
