Help installing new head unit in 1999 explorer

Ok now I have another problem. I took the radio out just to see what I'm going to have to connect. There are three wire harnesses plugged in. I think one for the radio, one for the amp and one for the CD changer. I get the smallest one out with no problem(one for the amp?). But the other two will not come out. They have the tabs that you push down and then pull out. One is broken off but I can still feel something moving down on it. And the other has it but just won't come out. I am afraid to pull from the wires since I might pull them out. But when I pull from the base it feels like it's not moving. What do I do?

Ok I connect what I thought needed to be connect. I put it in my car and put the black ground cable with the claw on a screw. What I turn my car on the head unit doesn't turn on. But when I turn my car off I think I can hear something in the head unit moving. What should I do?
