Hello - Hopefully I can get a quick response...

I was changing the transmission fluid and filter on my 1997 Mountainer 5.0 V8 and 4R70W automatic. When i dropped the pan, I found the following plastic peice lose in the fluid. Where does it go?

It is about a 1.5" long and 1.2" wide... the black is a rubber gasket. Look familiar?

I think section had the same piece, you should just be able to toss it out, I think its a indicator if the transmission has ever been rebuilt?

it's a plug from the factory, don't worry about it.

I've been doing some searches also.... It seems like I can just throw it away? Or should i put it back in there?

yeah mine had the same plunger dealy. Just toss it. What it is is they install that in the dipstick on the transmission side so nothing gets down there, then when they are done they put the dipstick in the tup and pushes that plunger through. You can toss it :).

I'll second most of what's been said. I had my trans serviced over the weekend and synthetics put in and the same plug was in the bottom of the pan. A quick call to the dealer related exactly what MattAdams stated. What was important to me was that my trans had not been serviced since new (30K now), so I was glad I paid for the backflush and filter change.

Well it's done - the filter is in, the pan is back on, and Mercon V has been added. Thanks for all the help guys!

Thanks,
Aaron
