my 4wd wasnt engaging fully and it was clicking and making noises..i wrote it off as the hbs not locking fully..and intended to install MM spinners pretty soon..but i just wunted to test it out againthe other day befor i purchased the hubs, and the indicator light for the 4wd wouldnt ev en light up..what AM i looking at here?

Shift motor failure... Very common... see the Shift motor rebuild thread for info and pics on a simple free fix.

that's some serious torque for just a single bolt to handle, even if it is gr 8 especially since it was under double shearing strain, didn't stand a chance. I can't find the link anymore, but other than welding the inner parts together to lock it permanently, I know there is also a way to lock it by adding washers or spacers underneath the splined cams that are in the hub, cheap and easy, that should get you by until you get the manual ones.

:salute: <--i have to after hearing the bolt trick...cant beleave someone tried that.sorry if i seem harsh.

the problem is in order to drill the shaft and get a bolt through it was probably like a 3/8 or something bolt you shoved in there. If you drilled it much bigger you wouldnt have enough meat left on the shaft to hold anything at all. If you could use a larger bolt it may work, but would still look ghetto.
