Help! Loud Knocking noise

hello i have a 2003 xls explorer, about 3 weeks ago noticed a pretty loud and annoying rythmetic Knocking nosie coming from behind the radio, the noise would come and go, and this morning i went to turn the heat on in the car and there is no noise execpt for when i turn the the knob but its very low. when i put the heat on its strickely cold air. i need to get this fixed asap going into the winter months, please help !!!

i have a 03 with the same problem! i took it to ford and they said it was eather the heating core or the Actuator eather was its going to cost me $1400

could be the blend Door actuator

I encountered the same problem the other day. Seems to only click when I have the temp knob turned fully to the hot side....if I back it off a little, it stops. How hard is it to check and/or change that blend door actuator?

I'll see if I can find a pic for you, the blend door motor is a white box on the left side of the plenum, which is visible behind the glove box. This is where you'll want to be listening for the clicking or knocking noise.
