00 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0
Here we have a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT 5.0 AWD with 124,000 miles. I am the second owner. I want to clean it up and keep it for a while, go off roasting and essentially have a solid rig to keep. I would like some help though. What would you do with it?

Known issues:

*Surface rust on frame, you can see in the pictures if it's something be concerned about let me know. There isn't any rust on the rockers or wheel wells. There is rust on the bottom of the rear hatch and the nose of the hood.
*Suspension feels like crap. It clunks and if I take a bump at any angle it rocks a bit. The rear leafs are sagging too
*Driver side power locks stick, the door handle is broken but not the mechanism.
*Brakes vibrate at highway speeds, not terrible but noticeable
*Needs tires but I don't want to lift it so I'm thinking 30x9.5 or 31x10.5 but most likely the 30s.
*I have added one quart of oil in the past 4000 miles. It ran synthetic it's entire life
*Bad/ticking exhaust leak from the manifold. There's visible rust on/around the manifold.

I would try to get the spark plugs out first. Then fix the exhaust leak. Then ball joints rancho shocks and a procomp add a leaf. A brake job and the nine fifties YMMV

That trucks looks nice BTW

What kind of cost from an Indy shop to do ball joints anyway? Do you think that frame looks problematic?

Here are some updated pics. I removed the roof crossbars and the running boards. I added a set of BFG All Terrain KO 30/9.5/15s.

Looks nice dog.

I like the 9.50s...

Nice.

My dd is my wifes old 2001 subie outback with the h-6. I swear the subie will kick my 2001's 5.0 's ass and get way better millage doing it.

That said i like the ford way better..nicer ride and way more comfortable...for sure looks way more manly..lol.

I've gotta figure out what to do about those holes. Maybe get some plugs of some kind but don't know where or even if I could get them painted to match without it being ridiculous

I kinda' like the running boards. Got'em on my '98. Maybe you could get black push rivets for the holes... maybe a strip of chrome.. I dunno. Put the runners back on?

I just got my front windows tinted at 20% to match. I got push pins for the holes but now I have the rocker lip that's annoying. I wish there were rock sliders I could get.
