I have the factory radio/cassette in my 93 Ranger.Years ago, I had a small 100w 4 way amp hooked up to it. Worked fine up until...

... this morning. It has power, but no sound. If I turn the volume up to the max, I can hear the radio faintly. Same thing with the cassette. Is this a ground problem? I pulled the amp out of the kickpanel, it has power. I see no obvious unplugged or crossed wires, but electrical and audio is NOT my strong suit. I get loud crackling static through the speakers when the truck is running, but not when the ignition is on Acces.

The only thing different from yesterday to today is it rained pretty hard last night, and my truck is not absolutely watertight. Maybe something get a little wet? but I can find no proof of that.

Help?

I would say it might have something to do with the RCA's in the head unit maybe. and the sound you hear in the speakers when the truck is on is it like a humming noise and does it get louder when you step on the gas?

What if you connect a speaker to the stock HU speaker connection instead of going thru the amp. Take the amp out of the loop, pull it's fuse and turn on the radio with one speaker connected to it like it used to be stock.

This way you can say, 'My stock HU is fine. It must be my wiring job, or my amp is fried.'

Get rid of any wire nuts and electrical tape and use butt connectors as step 2.
