Help with stock system

Help!!! I"m having trouble with my stock stereo in my 99X. I'm having some crackling in the speakers on the passenger side only. It seems to get worse when the engine is running. I thought it was a loose wire, but I pulled everything apart and checked for wiring. I even rewired the speakers to check connections. I thought that maybe it is a connection to the head unit....going to check that in a few.... I have read that some explorers have a built in amp. I have an XLT, would mine have one, and if so where? Anyone with any ideas PLEASE help, I"m going nuts trying to figure it out.

99 explorers dont have a built in amp unless you have the mach audio.....i think (someone correct me if im wrong). mine definately didnt and i have a 99. the crackling could be that the speaker is torn (even a tiny little rip will be annoying). another possible quick fix would be to cut back the wire about a half inch and reconnect the wire to the speaker. the copper in the wire can get old and distort the sound. hope this helps

Well, I tried that and it didn't make a difference. So I tried wiring in a new speaker that I know is good, and the same thing happened. I haven't had much luck yet as its really annoying and its kinda hard to work on since the temp is only 5 degrees here. lol....but I will work on it tomorrow again in hopes that I can find a loose wire behind the dash. I looked behind the kick panel as well where the speaker connections are before running through the jamb. But nothing made a difference. I'm wondering if it has a stock noise filter.....not sure what they are really called, but I know you can buy them and put them in to help with noise reduction on cars with distributers. They typically plug into the power supply I believe. As far as the amp goes, that is a help knowing it doesn't have one......now I know where to start looking in a general direction. Thanks for the help and if anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.

my friend replaced the head unit and all the speakers and it still does that i dunno why but it does its annoying i agree

If bu "built in amp",, you mean the amp is a part of the HU, the 99 is definatly one.

I think I have found the problem as of late last night. I was able to find where there was some feedback coming in on the passenger side of the vehicle. There were two speaker wires that were touching each other where the wires had chafed under the door pilar plastic where the wires run into the rear door. I don't know what cause the chaffing, but I rewired this and the problem has gone away. Thanks for all your help.
