Up to this point I have:
-taken up carpet and opened access panel to tranny from inside cabin.
-disconnected the vaccum line
-unbolted the heat shield

now i am stuck, my haynes manual says to pull the valve out, but its not coming out no matter how hard i pull. which leads me to belive that i need to loosen another nut somewhere? there is one more nut on the same thread as the heatshield bolt. Also I am going to remove the heat shield from underneath the truck tomarrow to get a better look at things. Also my haynes manual says to take out the 'control rod' or something like that, what should i do?

Where Im at:

ok great thanks. also what do i do with the pin thats inside?

don't drop or loose it you need to reuse it

There is a small flange holding the modulator in place. See if you could get a better look all around it. Here's a picture from Glacier991's photo gallery:

I found the flange, now will the valve just snap out with enough muscle or should i pry it with a flathead screwdriver or something?
