Hi again,

Thanks to all who offered some suggestions on my steering issue. I took it down to have it inspected and they told me they were "pretty well certain" that the problem is the rack.

Does anyone know if these racks have a serviceable valve like some vehicles have? Or does the entire rack usually have to be replaced?

Anyway, my bigger and more immediate problem is with my engine. I have the 4.0L SOHC. I put in new plugs and wires yesterday and now my engine is bucking uncontrollably. I verified that the wires are all properly seated. The firing order is absolutely correct. I didn't try any shortcuts in doing them, either. I removed the passenger's side wheel and inner fender and I did the job properly so I had a good enough grasp on the wire boots to know that they're on there solid.

I'm wondering if there's a vacuum line somewhere that I could have accidentally knocked loose? There are two lines at the rear of the block where I would have been pulling the wires through to the ignition block, but those seem to be connected properly.

I unplugged my IAC to see if that had anything to do with it, but as soon as I unplugged it the engine just died. So I've ruled that out. I'm thoroughly stumped. I know it has to be related to the fact that I changed the plugs and wires because the truck ran perfectly right up to that point.

Suggestions????

Thanks!!!!

Start it up in the dark, lights off. See if there is any arcing from your new wires. You may need to re-route some wires, or you may see arcing at the plugs.

If you have arcing at the plugs, you will need to use some dielectric grease on the insides of the boots. Also a good idea to do the insides of the boots at the coil, you can get arcing there as well.

If you used really cheap wires (Autozoned Out), you may find you have to upgrade to a better set -

Also, sometimes you gotta go back and check your work - check the gaps on the plugs and make sure you gapped em right, and make sure you did not crack any of the porcelain insulators when you put em in.

Not sure about the valve - I think you have to do the rebuilt rack, but I could be wrong.
