Hey all,

Both the springs/clips on the drivers side door handle broke and now the door handle is really floppy (still functions perfectly, but It feels like a big hunk of junk and I'm not sure how long it'll last). What are my options? It looks as if the handle is riveted in and I will have to get a new handle completely. Is this true?

Thanks for all the help.

Matt

Your options are:

1) Replace the handle with a new one. Ebay has them but color match may be a problem.

2) Junk yard

3) Try and repair the broken handlle. There are instructions on the site somewhere and I'll try to find them and post a link.

All options require you to drill out the rivets and remove the handle... you either have to replace with another handle or dismantle the old one, replace the springs and reinstall using bolts and nuts where the rivets were.

I believe the handles are interchangeable right to left and front to back.

I have only one spring working and I'm waiting for the other to go before I replace my handle.

Although it doesn't matter in this case, it would help us to assist you if you list the year and model of your X.

I really appreciate your quick assistance, and yes, after I posted (and was driving down the road), I realized that I didn't list the year/model of my Explorer. I posted hastily and didn't even think of it... But again, thanks for your help. It's greatly appreciated.

Matt
