Help! My lights won't turn off!

Last night when I drove home in my 93 Sport, I turned on my lights and saw the right turn signal indicator come on and stay on. Looking, I saw the front turn signal was out. No big deal. Figured I get a light bulb tonight and fix it later.

Tonight when I pulled into the driveway and turned off the truck, the A/C went off, but the blower fan stayed on. I fiddled with the key a couple of times and it went off. But when I turned off the lights, the driving lights stayed on! Flipping the switch did nothing. Also:

  • When I turn on the headlights, the right headlight is dim.
  • When I put the lights on high-beam, the right driving light is dim.

I went ahead and changed the turn signal bulb and it works fine except that it blinks much slower than the left one.

As I didn't have enough light to see, I've disconnected the battery for tonight. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Do you have DRL (daytime running lights). It could also be your multifunction switch thats going south. I had the DRL go bad on mine and the lights would not go off so until I could get a new one I had to pull the fuse to turn it off.

I don't have DRLs, but I did get the problem figured out. Basically, grabbing wires and pulling them to see if anything was loose revealed a loose negative battery ground. Pulling it shut off the blower and the turn signal indicator that was staying on. But the driving lights still wouldn't go off. I thought this might be a bad switch or relay or maybe something loose in the engine fuse block. Banging on the fuse block did nothing. But banging on the driving light relay made the lights go off. After tightening up the loose ground and pulling and cleaning the relay, everything seems fine.
 






Funny how one thing leads to another. You think it is one thing causing a problem. You tear it apart and only partially fix the problem. It turns out to be multiple things went bad at once :mad:

Yeah, me too. I especially hate electrical issues because they can be so bizarre. The deal with the lights seemed like a loose ground because the lights were dim on one side. But the AC blower made no sense at all. I have no idea why a stuck driving light relay would feedback into the system and turn the blower on. But that seems to be what happened. :rolleyes:

One obvious change is my truck is idling smoother now. So much so that I'm surprised I didn't notice how rough it was before. It'll be interesting to see if it affects my fuel economy. My last tank netted 20.56 mpg.
