1993 Ford Explorer XLT
Here is the deal. I have a 93 Ford Explorer XLT. My friend and I put a used transmission into it, after i found out it didn't move what so ever. So upon putting it in we got it to move in drive more than the required gears. Drive, Overdrive, and the two other gears that are meant to be drive, but my Neutral is also a drive and my reverse is my Neutral. Neutral only works normal when its turned off and the keys on but not starting the car. We hooked everything up right. We checked what was told to be a Z link or something it seemed fine. My friend who helped me put it in the car thinks we might have forgot to put fluid back into the transfer case. So my question is: Would this be the cause of my gears being all messed up? And if so would putting fluid back into it bring it back to normal?????????? Id really really like to get this thing back running right since i spent 1400$-1500$(paid 900$ for the vehicle lol) for it including parts.

Thanks for any and all info/advice given.

2. This is not the tranny forum. THere is a sub forum for that.
3. I'm wondering the same question too.

Help needed: info/advice

Hopefully i found the right forum to post this on now. My luck probably not but here it goes:

Forgetting to put fluid in the xfer case will have no bearing on the transmission being in the wrong gear.

My guess is the shift indicator is mis-adjusted..

With the vehicle blocked, with e-brake on and someone standing on the brake I'd shift it through the gears by using the linkage on the side of the transmission. In other words, be VERY CAREFUL and disconnect the shift linkage from the side of the transmission and try shifting it via the lever as it comes out from the trans.

If it shift correctly that way your linkage or shift indicator is incorrect.

Sorry, this is the trany forum, look at the heading of the forum.
Are you sure the indexing pin on the shift lever is in the grove in the manual valve in the valve body? Ok I see you didn't have the pan off right? Also these get broke off in trans removal or ruff handling.

The two threads are now merged together, and in the proper forum.

Thanks for the advice when i can ill try it out. and again sorry for posting in the wrong forums.... still learning lol
