My suv is having a small problem shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It rev's up a little bit more than normal into gear around 20 to 35 mph and the o/d light is flashing. What could it be..86,000 miles on it.

Need to have it tested for codes .

Now there is no o/d light flashing but it still rev's up funny from 2 to 3 gear. At this speed 20-30 mph. If i take my foot off the gas between 20 to 30 for a few seconds i cant feel the jump

This has been discussed a bunch of times. Search for 2-3 shift flare. Problem is probably loose valve body in the transmission.

i have the same problem in mine and alot of others have this problem too.
(so don't feel left out) there is a problem with these transmissions but i don't have any money to fix mine. I just take it easy when starting off and i've been fine for the last 20,000 miles. the overdrive light can be reset by turning the truck off wait 3 seconds then starting again. THE BEST TIME TO DO THIS IS AT A RED LIGHT.
good luck let me know if you are able to CHEAPLY fix this problem.

its in the ford shop now. Cheaply im sure it will be not.

ya man that sux about these trannys. The thing is I am over 100,000 miles already and I'm thinking its just not worth it to fix it now and it seems to shift well if i let my foot off the gas a little when i accelerate. but anyway please let me know how much they want to fix it and if they read your codes and what code it could possibly be.
thanks

Its the valve seperator body and somthing else they say at ford. $560.00

The instructions to do it yourself for less than $100 are on this site. Pictures and all....

i do not have a lift. I have limited tools to do the job....

I cant find your do it your self thread. Do you have a link?

The trany shop i brought it to said $1700.00 so i took it to the dealer.

They must have been quoting you a rebuild on the tranny which should NOT be necessary.

I doubt a rebuild of the whole unit is necessary. Just a valve body rebuild.
